Retail Sales Up 12.5% For 2006

China's domestic retail sales of consumer goods reached RMB1.26 trillion for the months January and February this year, rising 12.5% over the same period last year.

Within that figure, January's retail sales of consumer goods rose 15.5%, while that of February's rose 9.4%, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

Sales from the hospitality and food and beverage sectors saw the greatest growth among all industries, with a 13.1% increase, or RMB 176 billion.

The wholesaling sector trailed slightly behind with a 12.7% increase, although it posted, in real terms, an added amount of RMB 1.06 trillion.
