Located in Zhongyuan District, the Wal-Mart shopping plaza will cover 86 acres and the construction area is about 180,000 square meters. A total investment of CNY1.2 billion will be put in this project and the expected construction cycle is about 30 months.
The Wal-Mart shopping plaza is a comprehensive project with retail, catering, entertainment and leisure services. On completion the project will offer about 2,000 employment positions to local people and realize annual profits and taxes of about CNY30 million.
As one of the biggest retailers in the world, Wal-Mart has opened over 7,000 stores in 14 countries all over the world. The Zhongyuan store is Wal-Mart's third project in Zhengzhou. Its 27 Road store will open in the first half of 2009 and construction will start its University Road store in the second half this year.
I could make out nothing but the Wal-Mart sign from the window of my speeding taxi. Now it's just a matter of doing Google searches or asking Westerners in order to find the Wal-Mart store in downtown Zhengzhou.
