To ensure food safety during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Shandong Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision will promote a food safety tracking system in major food manufacturers' premises across the province.

With this tracking system, the bureau will realize electronic monitoring over the whole processes of the entry of raw materials, the use of food additives, the control of production process, and the sales of these products.

Developed and researched by Shandong Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, this food safety tracking system has functions such as food tracking, early warning, recall, consumer direction, and government supervision. The system, which can realize food safety tracking of vegetables, fruit, meat and seafood, has been put into use in large supermarkets in Jinan and Qingdao.
