August Retail Sales Of Consumer Goods In China Up By 23%

According to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the total retail sales of China's consumer goods reached CNY876.8 billion in August 2008, an increase of 23.2% compared with the same period last year.

The retail sales in China's urban areas were CNY601.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 23.9%; and the retail sales in county and sub-county level were CNY275.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 21.8%.

By industry, retail sales of wholesale and retail industry were CNY736.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 23.2%; retail sales of dining and lodging industry were CNY124.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 26.3%; and the retail sales of other industries were CNY16.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%.

In addition, the accumulated retail sales of China's consumer goods in the first eight months were about CNY6.8 trillion, an increase of 21.9% compared with the same period last year.
