Gome: No Plan For TV Direct Sales In China

In response to recent media reports that the Chinese appliances retail giant Gome will enter the TV direct sales market, He Yangqing, a spokesperson for Gome, said the company currently had no plan to enter this business.

According to previous local media reports, Gome was planning to invest CNY1 billion to enter China's TV direct sales market, aiming to promote its sales while facing the global economic recession. It was reported that the TV direct sales business of Gome would reportedly be launched at the beginning of 2009.

However, Gome's spokesperson He Yangqing recently scotched the rumor and said although Gome had been investigating the TV direct sales sector, the company currently had no plan to enter this business.

The rumor about Gome's entry into the TV direct sales market started early in 2006 when the company publicly announced plans to hire management staff from the TV direct sales industry.
