Tesco To Open Energy-saving Store In Guangzhou

British retailer Tesco has announced plans to locate its first energy-saving store in southern China in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou.

The new Tesco store, which is expected to be opened around the Spring Festival in late January 2009, is the retailer's second store in Guangzhou as well as its seventh in southern China. By then Tesco will have over 60 outlets in 23 cities in China, including Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Shenyang, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

The new Tesco store will cover an area of over 13,000 square meters and will stock more than 20,000 imported and Chinese-made products as well as its own-label products. In addition, the store will offer many special products with prices set to be the lowest within a three kilometer radius of the store.

The new Tesco store will adopt the advanced energy management systems to control the energy consumption of the store.
