Best Buy To Sell Own Brand LCD TVs In China

According to reports in local media, the global electronics retailer Best Buy has started to sell its own brand LCD TVs in China for the first time and these TVs are only available in Best Buy stores.

Qian Yan, general manager for public relations at Best BuyChina, said that the retail price for Best Buy's own brand 42-inch LCD TV was CNY5,999. In addition to the TV products, Best Buy has also introduced its own brand portable DVD players, digital photo frames, and USB computer speakers into China.

So far, Best Buy has launched five own brands in China: Rocketfish, Dynex, Init, Geek Squad, and Insignia. These brands cover more than 150 kinds of products from IT components to digital camera parts.

Unlike their American counterpart, Chinese electronics retailers like Suning and Gome have not developed any own brands. Fan Zhijun, vice president of Suning, said that Suning did not launch any own brands, because it was a retailer and its core competitive power lay in its products distribution and services.
