Tesco To Open New Outlet In Hexi, Nanjing

The British supermarket giant Tesco has signed a contract with Nanjing Wanda Plaza to open a new Tesco supermarket in Hexi New City, Nanjing, with an expected opening date of December 18, 2009.

According to Tesco's development director, Tesco is optimistic about the prospects for Nanjing, especially the Hexi New City area. There are about 350,000 people in the Hexi area and the number is expected to be over 450,000 before the end of 2010. After spending more than a year on investigation and site selection in Nanjing, Tesco finally decided to open the new outlet in Nanjing Wanda Plaza of Hexi New City.

Tesco now has 58 hypermarkets in China plus five pilot convenience stores.

Other stores in the 275,000-square-meter Nanjing Wanda Plaza will include Vans Department Store, Wanda International Cinemas, Gome, and Little Sheep.
