According to statistics jointly published by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics and the National Bureau of Statistics, Beijing's consumer market maintained a stable growth in May 2009 and realized retail sales of CNY43.63 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.7%.

By industry, Beijing's wholesale and retail industries realized sales of CNY39.44 billion, an increase of 14.5% compared with the same period of last year; the catering industry realized sales of CNY3.94 billion, up by 18.8%; and hotel industry realized sales of CNY830 million, an increase of 11.8%.

By region, Beijing's urban retail sales increased by 14.4% year-on-year to CNY37.89 billion while its rural retail sales increased by 14.7% to CNY5.75 billion.

From January to May 2009, Beijing achieved accumulated retail sales of CNY207.33 billion, an increase of 13.2%.
