Carrefour To Open New Outlets In Urumqi

According to Eric Legros, the president of Carrefour China, though business was affected by the riots of July 5, 2009, in Xinjiang, the company is confident about the market of Urumqi and plans to open two or three new supermarkets in the city in 2010.

Legros said Carrefour's sales in China had increased rapidly in 2009 and the growth of its three existing outlets in Urumqi were growing rapidly. Its retail sales in Urumqi accounted for about 5% of Carrefour's total sales in China. In 2010, Carrefour plans to continue to strengthen its staff training in Urumqi, laying foundations for the opening of its new projects.

Carrefour opened its first supermarket in Urumqi in 2004.
