According to the National Bureau of Statistics, retail sales in China reached CNY2.94 trillion in the first quarter of 2009, a year-on-year increase of 15%.

According to statistics published by Beijing Committee of Commerce (the former Beijing Bureau of Commerce) during the five days around the Qing Ming Festival, 35 Beijing retailers realized total sales of CNY444 million, a year-on-year increase of 1.33%, and daily average sales of CNY88.88 million.

Chinese electronics retailer Dazhong has announced plans to renovate its CCTV Tower flagship store into an electronics shopping mall, which is expected to be opened in the second half of April 2009.

According to statistics released by China's National Bureau of Statistics, due to factors such as the economic slowdown, decreased exports, and falling share prices, China's retail sales in the first two months of 2009 only increased by 15.2% year-on-year.

With a store area of 170,000 square meters, Jiuguang Department Store owned by the Hong Kong-based Lifestyle International Holdings has been opened at the Harmony Times Square in the Suzhou Industrial Park, making it the largest individual department store in China.
