Bertelsmann Closes Beijing Outlets

A representative from Bertelsmann has disclosed to local media that Bertelsmann has already closed 11 outlets in Beijing, which accounted for 70% of the company's total outlets in the region.

Bertelsmann says it closed these outlets because they were not well located. It also says it will re-distribute these outlets in Beijing once it finds better areas.

However, several of those 11 closed outlets were already located in consumer-rich areas of Beijing such as the East Plaza and New World Center.

Bertelsmann entered the Beijing market in 2004. It had developed 17 outlets in the city before the shutdown. Right now, there are only four outlets left in Beijing, which are respectively located at Zhongguancun, Jiulong, Maliandao and Wangjing.
