Carrefour Sets Its Northwest Headquarters In Xinjiang

International retail giant Carrefour has set up its northwestern headquarters in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, which will serve as the base for it to expansion in northwest China.

He Guining, director of Carrefour Northwestern Region, says that most international chains have set up their headquarters in Xi'an, while Carrefour has chosen Urumqi for the great market potential there.

As the first foreign retailer to open in Xinjiang, Carrefour already has two stores in Xinjiang which achieved RMB280 million revenue in 2005. The two stores have offered employment opportunities for 1600 people.

Currently, Carrefour has three stores in northwest China–besides the two in Xinjiang it also has one store in Xi'an. He says Carrefour will soon open more stores in Xinjiang and expand its business into other areas in northwestern China.
