Whale Inside, Asia's first "dark restaurant", has opened its first China outlet in Beijing's Jianwai SOHO compound and will open about ten other Whale Inside restaurants in mainland China in the next two years.
Located near the World Trade Center, the first Whale Inside is a special restaurant which features darkness inside and where guests need to follow waiters who wear night goggles to enter the dining area. Since the restuarant has no lights, diners need to fumble their way through finding their food and utensils.
Whale Inside says it will open directly-run restaurants in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. It will also open franchised restaurants in Hangzhou, Dalian, Chengdu and Shenzhen. The four stores which respectively lie in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Dalian and Hangzhou will be formally opened after the Chinese Spring Festival holiday.
