Shanghai KFC and McDonald's Welcome Unions

KFC and McDonald's branches in Shanghai have recently started labor unions at their respective outlets.

According to the Shanghai Municipal Trade Union Council, as of June 28, about 200 KFCs and 80 McDonald's instituted labor unions at their restaurants. About 90% of their total employees at those outlets have become union members. This is in sharp contrast to their comrades in the United States, who often find it impossible to unionize at fast food chains.

On May 20, 2007 McDonald's in Guangdong held its the first Labor Union Conference, further strengthening the labor union for McDonald's in Guangdong.
