SFDA Opens Food Safety Early-Warning System

On December 28, 2007, China's State Food and Drug Administration held a ceremony in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province on the opening of Food Safety Analyzing And Early-Warning System, which marks the initial establishment of a communications platform on food safety information for 349 prefecture-level cities all over the country.

At the same time, it also marks the interim achievement of the construction of food safety system. The food safety system is a platform constructed by food safety supervision and managing departments for releasing food safety information, so as to supply complete, timely and scientific information services for the public, popularize food safety information and help consumers target correct consumption habits.

The building of this system started in 2005 and lasted for three years. In 2005, the SFDA organized experts and supervisors to draw up the "Directions for Food Safety Information System",and special-purpose funds were allocated in 2006 for construction of supervision and management of food and drugs. In 2007, the SFDA promoted the construction of the Food Safety Analyzing and Early-Warning System and built food safety information networks in 349 cities and areas of 31 provinces. At present, most of the food safety information networks have been opened.
