Yamada Denki To Open New Store In China

Yamada Denki, one of the largest electronics retailers in Japan, is planning to open a flagship store in China.

Yamada Denki has signed an agreement with Tianjin government agencies to open a flagship store of about 32,000 square meters in the Binhai High-tech Zone in Tianjin. The store will be the first flagship store of Yamada Denki outside of Japan.

Founded in 1973, Yamada Denki is Japanese's largest, and the world's second largest, electronics appliance retailer. It offers more than one million items of merchandise and runs food, entertainment, bookstore, and supermarket businesses. Currently it has 1,200 stores in Japan.

As the first major Japanese electronic appliance retailer to enter China, Yamada Denki will target China's most affluent classes and will mainly sell Japanese luxury home appliances such as LCD TVs. The new store is expected to be formally opened in late August 2010.
