China's Social Consumer Retail Sales Up 10.2%

China's total social consumer retail sales in July 2016 were CNY2.683 trillion, representing a year-on-year nominal growth of 10.2% and the actual growth excluding price factors was 9.8%.

According to information from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, from January to July 2016, China's total social consumer retail sales reached CNY18.297 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.3%.

By location of operating units, China's urban consumer retail sales were CNY2.313 trillion in July 2016, a year-on-year increase of 10.1%; while its rural consumer retail sales were CNY370.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%. From January to July 2016, the combined urban consumer retail sales were CNY15.738 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%; and the combined rural consumer retail sales were CNY2.559 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.9%.

By consumption type, food and beverage sales in July 2016 were CNY288.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.9%; and merchandise retail sales were CNY2.394 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.1%. From January to July 2016, the combined food and beverage sales were CNY1.957 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 11.2%; and the combined merchandise retail sales were CNY16.34 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%.

In addition, during the first seven months of 2016, China's online retail sales reached CNY2.627 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 27.5%. Of which, online sales of physical goods increased by 26.1% to CNY2.124 trillion, accounting for 11.6% of the total social consumer retail sales.
