China's Social Consumer Retail Sales Up 10.6% In August 2016

China's social consumer retail sales reached CNY2.754 trillion in August 2016, which represented a year-on-year nominal growth of 10.6% and the actual growth excluding price factors was 10.2%, according to statistics from National Bureau of Statistics of China.

Meanwhile, from January to August 2016, China's total social consumer retail sales were CNY21.051 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.3%.

By region, China's urban consumer retail sales in August were CNY2.381 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%; while its rural consumer retail sales were CNY373.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.9%. During the first eight months of 2016, China's urban consumer retail sales increased by 10.2% year-on-year to CNY18.118 trillion and its rural consumer retail sales increased by 10.9% to CNY2.932 trillion.

By consumption type, China's food and beverage retail sales in August were CNY303.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.3%; while its commodity retail sales were CNY2.45 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%. During the first eight months of 2016, China's food and beverage retail sales increased by 11.1% to CNY2.26 trillion and its commodity retail sales increased by 10.2% to CNY18.79 trillion.

In addition, from January to August 2016, China's total online retail sales reached CNY3.021 trillion, marking an increase of 26.7% compared with the same period of last year. Of which, online retail sales of physical goods were CNY2.435 trillion, an increase of 25.5% and accounted for about 11.6% of the total retail sales.
