According to reports in Chinese local media, Tsutaya Books will open its first Chinese bookstore in Hangzhou's Maison Moree on October 18, 2020.
The Maison Moree project is located in the Xihu District of Hangzhou, close to the Xixi National Wetland Park, overlooking the West Lake scenic area across the mountain. With a total construction area of about 230,000 square meters, the project includes 17 individual buildings of different shapes, which together form a central square.
It is reported that Tsutaya Books was established in 1983 and operates about 1,400 stores worldwide, including 1,300 in Japan. It has 70 million members.
The Hangzhou Maison Moree store is Tsutaya Books' first bookstore in mainland China and has an area of over 3,000 square meters. Its second store is expected to open in Shanghai by the end of 2020. The brand's first store in the southwestern area will be opened in Chengdu. Prior to this, Tsutaya Books announced its mid-term expansion plan in April 2020, aiming to open 1,100 stores in China.
