Watsons Opens New Taiwan Distribution Center

Watsons Personal Care Stores (Taiwan) Co., one of Taiwan's major retail chain stores, has announced the inauguration of its new distribution center in Taoyuan.

Located near Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport with a 6,500-ping floor space, the center is said to be the company's largest and most advanced distribution center in Asia.

Stuart Mitchell, Watsons' managing director in Taiwan, said the center cost NT$30 million and it took five years to complete the interior design .

"Watsons' distribution center is the heart that pumps our success continuously," said Mitchell, adding that the operation will greatly facilitate the deliveries of products.

The facility features specially-designed cool rooms for chocolate and skin-care products, in which the temperature is controlled at below 20 degree Celsius.

According to the company, chocolate and skin-care products are the most popular items in their stores. It touted that 70 percent of the chocolate consumed in Taiwan each year are purchased through Watsons, and six out of ten facial masks are acquired through one of its retail stores.

The company also partnered with Exel and GTE, two companies that will be in charged of delivering an average 500,000 products from the distribution center to its 397 nationwide retail stores.
