Tesco Schedules Expansion In China

China's Ministry of Commerce reports that British retailing giant Tesco is going to re-brand all its 46 supermarkets in China, including its hypermarkets in Shanghai, to the Tesco brand.

Shanghai has the most international supermarkets in China. Currently, 14 brands including Carrefour, Tesco, Hua Lian GMS and Century Lianhua are developing fast there.

At present, Tesco is working in two areas. On the one hand, it is working to open more stores in China, and on the other hand, it is changing the brand of some of its holding companies to its own.

Tesco opened its first self-owned store in Beijing and now plans to open up to 10 self-owned stores in China. As the third biggest international retailer, Tesco now has over 2300 stores in 12 countries all over the world.

  1. Hi. I live in Pudong, Shanghai and i am from SA, lived in London for 1.5 years. I love Tesco, but cant seem to find one close by to shop at. Will a Tesco branch be opening here soon? Will love to get some feedback. Regards, Marianne
