Wuhan: 45 Supermarkets Will Install New Energy-Saving Lamps

Wuhan General Commercial Association and Wuhan Bureau of Commerce are promoting T5, a new kind of energy-saving lamp, and the first batch of 45 supermarkets in the city will install the new lamps soon.

At present, the lamps used in department stores, supermarkets and restaurants are mainly T8 energy-saving lamps. Compared with T8, T5 has advantages of low sounds, long lifespan, and power savings of 40% to 60%.

The first 45 supermarkets to install the new lamps are all big supermarkets with an average business area of 6,000 to 7,000 square meters. Their annual power consumption costs about CNY1.5 million, of which lighting costs account for 30%. On installation of this new type of lamp, the 45 supermarkets will save totally over 10 million kilowatt-hours of power each year.

By 2007, Wuhan had retail business areas totaling more than 2.27 million square meters, and including department stores, supermarkets, professional marts, speciality stores, convenience stores, and restaurants. If all of these outlets install this new type of lamp, this would save more than 80,000,000 kilowatt-hours of power annually, which is approximately the power consumption of Wuhan's citizens for one week.
